Industrial waste comes in multiple forms. From liquids to solid hydrocarbons to hazardous chemicals, any residual materials that are not used in the production of goods and services are classified as waste. Some of the largest contributors to waste generation are heavy industries. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, these include oil & gas exploration and refinery, construction, chemicals and chemical byproducts manufacturing, as well as energy and power.
Waste and Sustainability
Nowadays, industrial waste on-site, and any residual waste left is collected safely and carefully. Air-polluting substances are slowly phased out, while liquid and solid waste are first treated and recycled, when possible, before being disposed of or stored. Some of the recycled materials can be reused or turned into energy-generating fuels, supporting the pivot to a more circular economy in Saudi Arabia.
